The Italian gaming industry is in great ferment but still very small in size, compared to its economic proportion instead as a market. In particular, the ‘mobile gaming’ field in Italy has always been underdeveloped. To date there are only 4 companies (at least among those surveyed by IIDEA) developing mobile videogames. Two in Rome, one in Milan and one in Emilia-Romagna: Orbital Games, born from Bologna Game Farm and still in the start-up phase.

From the experience gained with the first two editions of Bologna Game Farm, the need was born to create a series of orientation activities dedicated to mobile videogames. Since the winning companies of the 2022 edition (with acceleration in 2023) are all based on PC – CONSOLE products, and since the production of independent teams has historically been based on “premium” ideations (i.e. to be sold at full price, conventionally), there is a need to support mobile gaming separately through a dedicated orientation and pre-acceleration program.

The goal is to support development teams dedicated to mobile gaming, as mobile games by their nature have very specific needs and production pipelines, monetization, and market access that are different from those of the PC and CONSOLE markets.

The new “BGF@Mobile” service will be presented as part of a webinar with mandatory participant registration, organized in cooperation with IIDEA, to be held on Friday, May 26th from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. on IIDEA’s dedicated Discord channel. Here is the link to participate.

Participation is a prerequisite to submit an application.

Participants interested in partaking on the program should send an email to info@bolognagamefarm.com indicating their details, the reason for interest and a CV presenting their current activity.
Proposals will be evaluated internally based on:

  • technical skills
  • stability of the company/freelancer
  • motivation/interest in mobile game development
  • priority will be given to companies/freelancers coming from Emilia Romagna (presence of an operating office or HQ in the region)

Up to 5 teams will be selected, who already have sufficient technical qualifications to be autonomous in the production of a mobile video game from a technical and creative point of view.

In particular, the candidates must have proven expertise and demonstrable experience in one or more of the following skills:

  • digital marketing
  • business management (economic/financial experience)
  • videogame development (programming, Unity3D)
  • IT development (programming)
  • videogame development (UI, graphics)

Possession or familiarity with each of the aforementioned skills will be taken in consideration in favor of the candidate during the applications evaluation.

Orientation and pre-acceleration activities will consist of three meetings that will be held remotely and supervised by experienced mentors carefully chosen by IIDEA.

Timing and schedule:

  • presentation webinar: Friday, May 26th 12-1:30 p.m. on IIDEA’s Discord channel
  • submission of applications to info@bolognagamefarm.com by Thursday, June 8th, 2023 1 p.m.
  • selection of applications deadline Thursday, 06/22/2023
  • three remote meetings: 18/07 – 05/09 – 26/09 (dates to be determined)
